About Us

At the core of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, St. Lawrence's Convent Girls' School stands as an undeniable leader in girls' education. Established in 1936 by the forward-thinking Sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM), this esteemed private Catholic institution has flourished under the dedicated stewardship of the Archdiocese of Karachi. What began with a modest enrollment of 115 students, under the resolute guidance of Mother Mary Britwald, has transformed into a vibrant educational powerhouse. Strategically situated at the historic crossroads of Britto and D'Souza roads in the former Cincinnatus Town, now known as Garden East, the school has evolved from a basic facility into a thriving center of academic achievement.

Through the challenges of nationalization in 1972 and the subsequent denationalization in 1990, St. Lawrence's Convent has steadfastly maintained its pledge to academic excellence. By 2011, the institution was nurturing around 1,100 girls, and as we approach 2024, it proudly boasts a legacy of over 130,000 alumni. The school's rich history was celebrated with remarkable grandeur during its platinum jubilee in 2011, highlighted by a Mass at St. Lawrence's Church, attended by Archbishop Evarist Pinto and other distinguished guests. This event underscored the institution's enduring legacy and spirited commitment to education.

Under the dynamic leadership of the current principal, Sister Catherine Gill of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM), this legacy continues to flourish. Since her appointment in 2019, Sister Catherine has injected fresh perspectives and innovative strategies into the school. With her extensive background in education and administration, she has implemented advanced teaching methodologies and integrated technology into the classroom, ensuring that students are exceptionally equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Sister Catherine Gill's accomplishments are both numerous and impactful.

Under her guidance, the school has experienced a remarkable surge in student enrollment and academic performance. She has championed initiatives to elevate STEM education, providing students with invaluable hands-on learning experiences and opportunities to compete in both national and international science competitions. Furthermore, Sister Catherine has prioritized the expansion of extracurricular programs, empowering students to explore their talents in the arts, sports, and community service. Among her notable achievements is the establishment of a comprehensive support system dedicated to students' mental and emotional well-being. Understanding the critical importance of holistic education, Sister Catherine has rolled out counseling services, stress management workshops, and programs that foster a positive school environment. Her unwavering commitment to nurturing an inclusive atmosphere has been pivotal in cultivating a strong sense of belonging among students and staff alike.

St. Lawrence's Convent proudly boasts an illustrious roster of alumnae who have made significant contributions across various fields. Among these trailblazers are acclaimed author and designer Shaila Abdullah, former Minister for Education Professor Anita Ghulam Ali, renowned epidemiologist Rennie M. D'Souza, and the beloved former principal Mrs. Christine Martins (2006-2018). These remarkable women, along with countless others, exemplify the school’s enduring impact and its unwavering commitment to shaping future leaders.

Today, St. Lawrence's Convent Girls' School continues to excel under the visionary leadership of Sister Catherine Gill, steadfastly upholding its tradition of academic excellence, moral integrity, and community service. With an unwavering focus on empowering young girls and fostering a lifelong love for learning, the school remains a shining beacon of educational excellence in Karachi and beyond.
